June 8, The Relationship-Question #1

Do you truly seek God with all your heart?

Seek His face always.”

Psalm 105:4.

In the Old Testament Scriptures, "face" translates “presence.”  So, to seek God’s face represents seeking His presence.

In Psalm 105, the people of God were called to praise Him for His faithfulness, and in this call to worship the Psalmist directed the worshipper to “seek His face always.”

But in contrast to a call to praise, there are moments when the call to seek God’s face concerns confronting personal disobedience. As revealed in Biblical history, sometimes the people of God were called to seek God’s face as an act of repentance.  In 2 Chronicles 7:14, God’s people had abandoned Him and needed to return.  And, in this call to repentance, our Lord declared, “seek My face.”

So today, whether the response is of praise, of repentance, or of both, we need to have this call refreshed in our own lives. Seeking God’s face – His presence, determines how earnestly we are seeking after the heart of God.

Do you truly seek God with all your heart?  This may seem easy to answer.  But measure the answer by your daily personal time with God.  Do you seek answers from God more than seeking God?  Are you on the hunt for a Biblical truth or spiritual understanding more than seeking God?  Do you seek God to simply have some immediate relief from guilt?  Do you truly seek God, or are you simply satisfying the inclinations of a spiritual discipline to “spend time with God”?  These questions may seem to be “straining the gnat” (being overly concerned with minute details), but just the opposite stands as the purpose for such questions.

When considering that “seeking God” should primarily be defined as seeking to be in God’s presence, then what becomes the goal of our daily prayers, or of the daily time we spend in God’s Word?  May it be that our hearts yearn for His presence.  May it be that we do not rush through our time with Him with the simple goal of “check”.

Let’s not limit our desire for His presence to a 10-minute slot in our morning schedule.  Let’s truly seek Him throughout the day.  Let’s genuinely desire to live in His presence.

May our conversation with Him not only become vibrant at the break of the morning light, but may we continue in communion with Him through the busyness of the afternoon and the fatigue of late evening.  May our hearts forever be set upon Him as a response to desiring His presence continually.

So, the question remains, “do we truly seek God with all our heart?”  And the answer is found in the desire we have for being in God’s presence.  Today, take time to truly seek His face.  If we truly seek Him from a need for repentance, then may it be so.  If we seek Him from simply hungering for more of His presence, then may this be a genuine pursuit.  But seek Him while He may be found (Isaiah 55:6).   Seek to be in God’s presence with a fresh pursuit of Him.  And begin at the cross of our Lord Jesus, where all pride dies, and a love for the Lamb of God nurtures our soul more deeply to seek God’s presence (I Corinthians 1:31; Galatians 6:14).

Seek Him with all your heart!  For this is the true measure of the relationship.

Blessings.
