June 27, the Greatest Song

You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands. Instead of the thorn bush will grow the juniper, and instead of briers the myrtle will grow. This will be for the LORD’s renown, for an everlasting sign, that will endure forever.”

Isaiah 55:12-13

Make no mistake about the celebration of God’s salvation: all of creation rejoices.  How much more should we rejoice! The Gospel does not represent a brief and momentary reprieve from the world’s calamities. The Gospel announces the healing of all that is broken.  The Gospel announces the fulfillment of all things as God has intended - and this through faith in Christ alone!

Rejoice, for God’s salvation makes all things complete:

  • Rejoice, for this signifies the healing of man’s ultimate infirmity: sin.

  • Rejoice, for this announces victory over man’s destiny with the grave.

  • Rejoice, for God’s promises are forever and eternally made complete.

  • Rejoice, for your salvation is not yours alone, but within the scope of all creation.

  • Rejoice, for God’s glory and the glory of Jesus Christ become perfectly displayed.

  • Rejoice, for on that day there will never again be the fall of sin.

And, for you who hold the good news in your soul, rejoice!  May the song of your redemption become the persistent, perpetual, and distinct contrast to an otherwise weary soul beaten down by this present culture’s doubt and darkness.

So, rise up Christian. Rejoice and sing.  If all of creation sounds forth God's salvation, then so should we.

Sing like the hills.  This represents the fullness of nature agreeing with the redeemed soul, thus making the salvation from our God the highest point of our heart’s joy.

Clap your hands as the trees. This demonstrates how active and responsive creation becomes to the very fulfillment of God’s restoration.

Be steadfast as the cypress and the myrtle.  The thorn bush, a symbol of evil, is replaced by the fir (the cypress or the juniper), which represents the godly standing strong.  The briar represents a lack of cultivation, while the myrtle in due season will through nourishment display beauty.

All of creation, in response to God’s salvation over His own, will indeed sing joyfully and will “make the name of the Lord great.”

So shall our rejoicing be as we continue to live in the present hope of our eternal salvation.  This is the song which must be sung.

Today, sing out. Rejoice.  This is your cue!

Blessings.
